OLD IS GOLD Water contamination Posted by Administrator Wednesday, 27 May 2009 My attention has been drawn to your news stories titled “40 TIA security personnel fall ill” (May 13, Page 3) and “Mystery disease renders 60 ill” (May 13, Page 4). In both cases, the reason behind the illness could have been contaminated water. It has been reported that there is no government agency responsible for monitoring the quality of water supplied by countless tankers in Kathmandu. What then is the situation of government water supply system? Who ensures quality control? The central food research lab! Concerned ministry! Kathmandu Metropolitan City! I would like to suggest concerned authorities to investigate the condition of water for the above two cases. In addition, we should develop and implement effective minimum quality control system in our water supply as soon as possible. Otherwise we are likely to hear of thousands of people drying from water poisoning in the coming days. By: Dakkal Pandit, Tinthana, Kathmandu Source: The Kathmandu Post, May 18, 2009
