OMG - Just had a panic attack. Thought Id lost Baretta! She was outside playing with Elsa and I was working on the computer. Got up to answer the phone and glanced outside just in time to see a little black tail and another small dog go over the hill on the road across from True West. As quickly as I could I handed the phone off to Shawn, threw my sneakers on and ran outside calling Barettas name. All this time weve been trying to find her a playmate and now some strange/stray dog comes around and off she goes! I called her about 4 times (usually she is there before I finish calling the 2nd time) and she wasnt anywhere to be seen. Elsa showed up looking at me like Who you looking for? Now I was sure that it was her little black tail I saw disappear over the hill. I took off at a sprint down the driveway, across the road and over to the road; calling the whole time. I reached the top of the hill and there was no sign of the dogs. I was hoping they may have stopped in one of the yards of the houses along the way. So I ran down the hill and stopped at the drive of the first house... BARETTA!! BAR-RRREEETAAA!!! Nothing. No sign of either dog. I continued running down the road stopping at the next house, scanning the yard and up and down the road - still calling.... out of breath. No sign of them. Panic sets in. Where is she? The tears start to fill my eyes. I cant lose her. I know she has a tag, but she is not street smart. I dont know who that dog was or where they are headed. If someone finds her, will they do the right thing and call me? Or will they keep her because she is an unspayed pure bred German Shepherd? She is only 5 months old! BAR-RRREEETAAA!!! Still....nothing. Ive run at least two tenths of a mile and there is no sign of her. I realize that I need to get my car and start driving. I ran back up the hill (no easy feat for an overweight 50 something person!) and headed back to the house. Scary thoughts running through my brain. I reach the driveway of True West and Im jogging as fast as I can so I can get the keys and go. Who cares that Im supposed to be working - my puppy is missing!!! I look up towards the front door - and there she is!!! She is sitting there all pretty like Mom...where did you go? Ive been waiting for you. OMG - relief like you would not believe. Apparently that was NOT her little black tail I saw but another dog. She must have been in the barn and either didnt hear me calling or I just didnt wait long enough. Why would I when I thought she was disappearing before my eyes? Ok... so more gray hairs on my head. So glad things turned out better than my imagination had me thinking!!! Breathe, Donna. Breathe.
