OMG - we urgently need to stop the display. I am really distressed about the baby! (Letter to SAPS by one of our members) To whom it may concern The devastating impact of toxic firework debris on the humanity, environment; and wildlife can never be underestimated nor over emphasized. Costly worldwide research testifies to this. It is dealt with internationally in the most prominent medical research journals. How can people living in a "civilized?" society, still choose to be ignorant regarding the risks? We live in a society where “everyone has the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being.” Refer -South African Constitution 1996. It is the moral obligation and duty of authorities to enforce this right on behalf of ALL citizens. Authorities should accept full responsibilty for failure to protect the constitutional rights of others. Adequate provision should be made for compensation of medical claims resulting from the aftermath of toxic fire-work displays and debris. Despite hospitals and frail care centres in close proximity to the German School; and regardless of patients/residents who suffer from serious respiratory ailments:- hundreds of young children suffering from allergic conditions abounds:- YET: Permits for firework displays are still being issued year after year??? Parents with a premature born baby reside within 600m radius of the German school. This little baby had to spent TWO MONTHS on life support in an intensive care unit in hospital; isolated from family; and was discharged only very recently when able to start breathing independently; - - only to now face the possibility of being forcibly subjected to endure intoxication with detrimental health consequences at HOME; [which should be considered a SAFE sanctuary] if authorities fail to protect CONSTITUTIONAL rights by issuance of permit for Firework display once again. - Despite public objection and numerous campaigns against. The ignorance with regards to endangerment of others in selfish pursuit of monetary gain; to feed greed; and total lack of ethical values displayed by an educational institution in modern society; remains despicable. PLEASE EXERCISE AUTHORITY WITH CAUTION AND MORAL RESPONSIBILITY ON BEHALF OF ALL CONCERNED. Thank You,
