OMG! I am so excited to share this once in a life time Hollywood story that just happened to me. Only in Hollywood. I was invited last week to audition for an independent film role of homeless man. However, I rescheduled twice because I was on location filming another film. By then, the production company had held auditions but, was still interested in seeing me because of my reel. They wanted to know if I would be okay with meeting in a public place on my first day off from filming and I agreed. As I prepared my character and back story for the audition I suddenly realized that I had an awesome opportunity to really showcase myself because the meeting was to be held at Starbucks. So, I disarranged my hair and dressed in some of the worst clothing in my wardrobe. Getting caught in heavier than usual morning traffic driving to the meet forced me to rethink my original plan of being seated on the ground panhandling outside of the location when the Casting Director approached and entered. My research provided me with a photograph of the CD. So, I knew my target. I parked behind the building and went hobbling around to the entrance like a vagrant carrying my sides, head shot, and resume in a crushed paper bag under my arm like it was the only possession that I owned. My goal was to appear authentic enough that the Starbucks customers would become uncomfortable with me. I saw my targets in the patio area quietly sipping coffee. I hobbled over to them and in a hung head mumbling fashion with a face and lip quiver asked for pocket change. Both gentlemen appeared caught off guard as they felt their pockets for loose change. They each apologized to me for not having any change while looking like they wanted me to leave. I broke character and smiled as one of them said, Charlz? They both had that, You got us look on their faces, as we all shared a good laugh. I was in character from the moment that I drove up and stepped onto the sidewalk. End of story..THEY BOOKED ME! I am sure that is how my idol Daniel Day Lewis or Denzel Washington would have done it! Life is good and I get to not shave for a couple of weeks!
