OMG I had no idea footage of these Australian shows existed until tonight... its like I was guided to it to relive great memories ;) … Last week marked 24 years since the tragic death of Stevie Ray Vaughan but I only started thinking about that tonight, I realised it also meant that its now nearly 30 years since I saw Stevie & Double Trouble perform at the Melbourne Concert Hall and Ive never forgotten it. And tonight a Youtube search took me back...Everyone who was there that night (and perhaps many others who caught a show on that tour anywhere in the world) got to witness something very special. He was fluid, smooth, powerful and absolutely on fire and made it all look effortless. All parts of this show are worth checking out (even though its just a camera mic on what is probably an old Hi 8 handycam of the era). But as well as the clip Ive linked to, do at least also check out Part 3 for an awesome version of Voodoo Chile and part 12 for an absolutely beautiful exhibition of subtlety, feel and dynamics. This is a Sydney show not the Melbourne concert I attended... However if you want to see and hear a musician/performer at the absolute peak of his power. A man completely at one with his instrument, it does not get much better than this... except the show we saw in Melbourne of course ;) Its also worth noting that this tour was an example of another fact... No matter how great you are (or think you are) when youre getting high or drinking a lot. You can actually be even greater after you clean up your act and get sober. Sadly for Stevie and the world of music; it was a helicopter crash that killed him a few years after this tour. youtu.be/5uhGAjADSjM?list=UUdrGUKvMRdzP9a_JQq-KDhQ
