OMG WHY O WHY WAS HE LEFT TO SUFFER :-( Brody is a 3-year-old Black Lab that was brought into Miami Dade Animal Shelter on 10/4, by the condition he was in and the wounds he sustained, it was obvious he had been viciously attacked by another dog. Tragically, Brody was left unattended to at MDAS for 7 days. During this time, Brody’s wounds were not treated; no antibiotics or pain medications administered. This poor boy was left to sit in pain for seven days with no treatment of any kind to his wounds, such an injustice for this poor boy! A group of Facebook folks who are concerned for the shelter dogs saw Brody and sent out an appeal for his rescue. Ryan saw those appeals and decided, with the help of PAWS Rescue Group Inc., to save Brody. The shelter set Brody’s release date for 10/10/13 but following their protocol they neutered him before they would allow him to leave the shelter…they did nothing to his ear and neck wounds, no treatment at all for his horrific injuries! Ryan immediately took Brody to Blue Pearl ER Vet for an initial examination. Blue Pearl kept Brody overnight; he was then transported to Pebble Creek Animal Hospital the next day to begin his extensive treatment plan. After examination, it was determined that his severely injured ear would need to be surgically removed, because too much time had lapsed to treat it properly. It was also determined that Brody has kennel cough, a bacterial infection in his ear canal, and a staph infection to the open wounds. An x-ray before surgery also revealed four broken ribs that were never treated properly, but have since healed. Please keep Brody in your thoughts and prayers, as he is not out of the woods yet and will have a long recovery ahead. We don’t know what has happened in Brody’s past BUT we can help determine his future…a forever home where he is loved by people who care for and protect him. The treatment and overnight stay at Blue Pearl ER totaled $700 and Pebble Creek Animal Hospital estimates their services will be at a minimum $3500.
