OMG, what an Excellent day we had at the Ryde 10 Mile Road Race! - TopicsExpress

OMG, what an Excellent day we had at the Ryde 10 Mile Road Race! Really good conditions; sunny, & the wind wasnt too strong even along the coast. Departed from the Leisure Centre at 7:45 am & got back at about 4:30 pm, so a long day, but we had the added excitement of going on the ferry from Portsmouth to Ryde (Im easily entertained!!) then there was a 20 minute walk down the Ryde Pier to the Race Venue. As soon as we got there, I obviously handed around lots of City Of Salisbury 10 Mile Road Race leaflets (Sunday 9th March 10:30 am) and also found a couple of noticeboards to put up posters (the boards were for the Ryde Rowing Club, but there was space, there were drawing pins .... !) :) The course was hilly (around twice the amount of ascent compared to the Salisbury 10) with three main hills, the last being at Mile 9, then a wonderful downhill section towards the finish line on the seafront with the final quarter of a mile on the flat. At Mile 8, I shouted GO, GO, GO at Stuart Holloway, assuming he was still on the course & heading for the finish line but in fact he had finished the race hours ago & was on a cool down run - hilarious!! Having resigned myself to the probability, last year, that I would never again finish ahead of Andy over 10 Miles, I was amazed to stay ahead of him for the whole of the race this time, beating him to the finish line by about a minute!!!!! :) :) :) My time was 1:24:30 ish, so only two minutes slower than my best 10 Mile time on the flat! What a triumph & I havent stopped grinning all day!! :) :) :)
