OMGosh, what a blast from the past just crossed my newsfeed. This, my friends, almost deserves one of those Facebook life event thingies. Imagine going to college and not having full and complete access to your college library. Thats what life was like for the second year of my 3-year theology degree. 1975, Emory Universitys theology librarian persuaded the Dean James T. Laney - who would go on to serve as US Ambassador to South Korea - to purchase the Hartford Theological Seminary library collection. The acquisition increased our librarys holdings from 90,000 volumes to more than 300,000. It took an entire year to catalog the new library. Emorys Pitts Theology Library is now the second largest theological library in North America, after the Burke library at Union Theological Seminary in NYC. After the library opened, the Southern province of the Dominicans opened a house of studies in Atlanta in order to have access to the library. They remain in campus ministry at Emory and minister at the parish near Ebenezer Baptist Church. https://vimeo/109520896
