OMO YORUBA NI MI (Im a yoruba) Ive always loved culture. The way of life of people is something Ive enjoyed pondering about. From the language spoken, to the mode of dressing, to the food eaten & also religious beliefs. All these cultural values interests me a lot. Omo Yoruba ni mi :) I remember my first attempt to speak Yoruba was through my older brother, Matthew who was picking up words from his friends. While our dad spoke English to us, my mum who was still learning English at that time spoke Polish :) .She was also picking up little Yoruba words. In other words, we were all learning. My family is a multi-lingual one :D Im from Osi. .. Home of quality garri Ive always been proud of my hometown. My dad made sure we knew our root. We always enjoyed going home on several occasions for Christmas and New year :) The praises Oriki my grandmother (late) and family members sang were intriguing. It made us feel special. ...........Omo Olosi-ile ohun... Omo abalejo soro...Omo abe-o reji.....Omo ajadoko aire paramo....Omo asa gbara ije si ile ole...... (I wish I had the Yoruba dictionary so I could put the accent ami) :D :D :D My grandmother made the best iru-alata (peppered locust soup) with amala We enjoyed every bit, smacking our lips, licking fingers..ahahah.... Hmmmm.....(thinking down memory lane) Running round the town with my cousins...we had no fear. Those were special moments. I enjoyed every bit. I LOVE the talking drum! The Yoruba dances are extremely interesting. I even learnt the Bata dance and the ilorin dance. ahahah... My roommates in school always laughed each time I shook my butts dancing the ilorin dance lol! My favourite African dish would have to be Amala with obe ewedu and eja gbigbe yum yum!!
