ON ASUUs ARREARS As its important that we breath in oxygen for survival, so is it importance that we make some pertinent point known to ourselves. With all due respect to my fellow students, particularly those who hold contra view, i count it of great significance that we admit to the fact that; The legality of ASUUs strike justifies their demand for the payment of their arrears. Legally, it has been correctly posited that the federal govt. lacks the right to implement the no work no pay policy. Why such position ? you may asked. It is simply because, this present ASUU strike is legal. Hence, on no account can the federal government deny ASUU what legally belongs to them. ASUU went on strike because the federal govt refuses to honour the agreement it unduressly entered with ASUU. By virtue of the aforestated reason for this strike, it however becomes logical to conclude that; If the govt had honoured the agreement in the first place, there would therefore be no reason for ASUU embarking on an indefinate action. Hence, the payment of the arrears would serve as punishment for govts disobedience to the 2009 agreement. However, in the interest of enlightement, i count it imperative to as well state that; The only condition whereby the federal government can implement the no work, no pay policy on Asuu is when the strike action is illegal. And the illegality or legality of this ongoing action can only be proved by the industrial court of law. But the Federal Government, knowing fully well that it lacks the merits to make a case against ASUU on this present matter, rufuses to approach the court . . . rather seeks backdoor tactic to end the strike through renegotiation. ASUU arreears should be paid to serve as punishment for Federal Governments intentional disobedience to the 2009 agreement it unduressly entered with ASUU.
