ON THE CURRENT NMA STRIKE ACTION I have no problem with medical doctors being the only persons eligible for appointment as hospital CMDs. I have no problem with a Surgeon - General being appointed for Nigeria, although I know that many times we copy from developed nations for the privilege and not the responsibility. I have no problem with CBN withdrawing its circular making the council for medical lab scientists the sole authority for the importation of medical equipment. But I neither believe nor accept, not for one second, that a single Nigerian should die because doctors in public hospitals are on strike to demand the above and other such conditions. By the way, was there a doctor at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospoital to attend to Bamidele Aturu where he was taken to yesterday according to news reports? For the avoidance of doubt, i do not support the current NMA strike, and hereby call on them to call it off immediately. It smacks of gross irresponsibility for them to start a strike when hospitals should be open to attend to the many victims of Boko Haram terrorist activities. Even if our government abdicates her responsibility to us, we owe it to ourselves to do the best we can to keep this country moving, no matter the slowness of the pace. My people say that it is better to move slowly than to stand still.
