ON THE FOURTEENTH OF AUGUST I BEGAN A TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER ON THIS SITE....i continue his story today...firstly i wish to thank so many people ,who read and liked ....part 1....today i drove past dads resting place on the way to the mountains.always i bless myself,as a matter of respect.we have clear memories of dads next stages...following his scholarship at de la salle armidale dad began to work,as the family had no funds for further education.his mum and dad annie and daniel ran a small dairy farm for cream and small crops like corn and oats.i remember the hand wound corn cracker ,the sheller ,the cream separator,everything was done by hand.dads mum,annie made the bread and butter,preserved the fruit ,made all the food.some people are still doing this (why do they call them alternates).?,the majority are trying to get it right.i often wonder ,is it to late.dad began cutting firewood for a living by hand,tough dry ironbark timber,he also helped his brother jim with honey bees ,again really hard work.by this time if the family had funds ,dad would have had a degree in mathematics .dad then commenced work at riverstone meatworks ,on the outskirts,of tenterfield.this enterprise was owned by no other than the famousor infamous ,lord vesti.it employed over 500 people.tenterfield was economically very sound.dad and mum worked hard to pay off the family farm.mum packing apples,dad at the abbitors.i clearly recall our fine food,garden vegetables,fruit,and meat from riverstone.the rissoles were fantastic.the town at that period had many fruit and vegetable enterprises.many trucks ran from here to brisbane and sydney ,we also had a well oiled rail system .all are now relics of the past.........in part 3 of a tribute to my father,i will tell of the economic demise of this small australian town.....and how people fought for survival.............on a end note ,one of the owners of a butcher shop in town suffered a heart attack last week our best wishes ,shane,on behalf of all....speedy recovery...........michael
