ON THE IMAGE OF THE IMMIGRATION APPLICANT PAINTING BLACK HIS SHOES WHITE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE EXERCISE. It is sad, unfortunate and shameful to us as a nation that a young person, educated, full of potential and hope, the so called bearer of the torch for the future of our country has been reduced to this level of deprivation and desperation. Its easy to ask snide questions and giggle at the fact that a pair of cheap white shoes cost nothing, but the question is nothing to whom? How much is nothing to you and how can you determine what nothing is to a person battered by extremes of poverty you and I cant begin to fathom? We have been on survival mode for so long that we have lost our empathy for those a few rungs below us, we cope by applying humor , no matter how distasteful, to situations which normally should trigger our natural instinct to help and support those in need, distracting us from reality and drugging us with a false sense of security in our bubble of lies we call a life. This is why we , as a people, have failed to move our country forward. We do not care about each other and care even less about Nigeria. It is glaring in our leadership / followership relations and in our reactions to heart wrenching tragedies. The question is how did we get here? How did we arrive at this point of cold heartedness, indifference and deep insensitivity? The answer that comes to mind is maybe because Nigeria also, has long since stopped caring about us..
