ON THE MERIT/ETHICS OF GHOST PRODUCING... At first, I didnt understand it... Im not a ghost producer but Ive met a couple guys who just didnt want to be stars or deal with touring & the limelight who choose to ghost produce in the background of performance DJs, for pay. Its funny how producers producing for artist-producers (aka big DJs) is such a big deal and thought to be so wrong in the scene... yet artists in every genre of music have had other people producing and/or co-producing for them since the dawn of recorded music without much in the way of public credit, and I dont hear a lot of people crying about that. Why the sudden drama? I would say ghost producers should at least get some form of credit somewhere, but some of them prefer to be anonymous, they said. Nothing wrong with it. Get over it, everyone. Talent is talent, at every level and stage. Hard work is hard work, *in every form.* Everyone in the scene has my respect, whether youre talented or not, whether youre a good spokesperson (blogger/YouTube channel), a conventional disc-jockey or just good with business (promoter/A&R/etc.). The whole machine takes humans with talents of all kinds. And no human is of more or less value than another. We ALL have talent! Being a model or a button-pusher and dealing with fame is still work and still takes a certain persona, etc. After all, didnt we start calling these type of producers DJs because we respected people who spin the right records, in the first place? Say it with me, DISC JOCKEY. I rest my case. ✯ JAKE NIEMI ✯ SINGER | PRODUCER | SONGWRITER
