ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY: December 1, 1874 - NWMP Assistant Commissioner James Macleod met with Chief Crowfoot and leaders of the Blackfoot Confederacy to establish relations. Before Treaty #7, peace in the area was kept by the gentlemans agreement reached between Chief Crowfoot and Macleod at this and subsequent meetings. Crowfoot called Macleod Bulls Head, probably from the bull depicted on Macleods family crest. The Macleod family legacy is honoured by the inclusion of the bull in the crest of The University of Calgary. Macleod and Crowfoots Relationship would lead to the successful creation of Treaty #7. This stamps pictured below were unveiled by the Canada Post Corporation in 1986 to commemorate Assistant Commissioner James Farquharson Macleod and Chief Crowfoot.
