ON THIS DATE in 1988, Tina Turner broke the Guinness Record when she performed in front of 182,000 people in Rio De Janeiro - at the time it was the largest audience ever for a single artist. Video: NUTBUSH CITY LIMITS, the opening number from that 1988 gig in Rio was a speedy as hell take on a autobiographical song Tina wrote & recorded in 1973 about her poor, rural hometown of Nutbush, Tennessee. The song was Ike & Tina Turners final significant chart hit, reaching #11 on Billboard Hot Soul Singles, #22 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #4 on the UK Singles Chart. Shortly after its release Tina separated from husband Ike after years of abuse. Ironically, ON THIS DATE 2 years later, in 1990, Ike Turner was convicted of driving under the influence of cocaine & sentenced to 4 years in prison in California.
