ONDO STATE IN THE NEWS AGAIN!!!! Mimiko commends Jonathan on TAC scheme 27 January, 2014 By Staff Reporter Mimiko commends Jonathan on TAC scheme The Governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has saluted the vision of President Goodluck Jonathan for sustaining and deepening the volunteer programme of the Technical Aid Corps. Mimiko was speaking while declaring open the 14th orientation exercise for Technical Aids Corps (TAC) volunteers, in Akure, on Monday. The TAC scheme is aimed at enhancing cooperation and understanding between Nigeria and the recipient countries in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) regions. The Governor said, “the scheme has helped in fostering partnerships with the ACP countries, and has also helped in exposing participating youths to new ideas and varying experiences to face emerging challenges of national development at home.” Mimiko, who expressed his excitement over the number of ambassadors recruited for the 2014-2016 Biennial volunteer scheme, charged the volunteers to be good ‘ambassadors’ in the respective countries they are posted to. He also urged the volunteers to see the two-year programme outside the shore of Nigeria beyond monetary gain and as an avenue to acquire more experience about life and challenges facing humanity globally. His words: “I urge you all to market the nation and the continent well wherever you are posted to. Educate yourself and you must understand the global financial and economic architecture and how it is not designed in favour of Nigeria and the developing economies and therefore find creative and ingenious ways to self-actualise within it. “The destiny of our nation lies in informed and educated people like you, who have this opportunity to stand out and be good ambassadors of yourself and the nation.” Mimiko said. He also charged the volunteers to feel free to explore the beautiful scenery of Akure and Ondo state at large during the period of their stay in the state. Earlier in his address, the Director General of the Technical Aids Corps (TAC), Dr Pius Osunyikanmi, who disclosed that 15,000 Nigerians had benefited from the TAC volunteer scheme, noted that 1,500 volunteers would participate in this year’s exercise. Osunyikanmi, who noted that the programme had been well funded by the Federal Government, said that Ondo State was chosen for the exercise due to its prevailing peace.
