ONE-DAY WORKSHOP ON IPSAS HOLDS OCTOBER 24, 2013 A one-day sensitization workshop on the implementation of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) for Rivers State holds 10am on Thursday October 24, 2013 at 10am at the Government house Banquet Hall, Port Harcourt. The Workshop would be declared open by His Excellency, the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. In a statement by the Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Chamberlain Peterside, the transition to the IPSAS in the State is in consonance with the vision of the Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to build a lasting legacy in our public finance system. The new accounting practice when operational will deepen transparency and engender increased accountability of government officials in managing public funds and assets. The Workshop will be facilitated by resource persons from the international accounting firm of Ernst and Young and is designed to enlighten policy makers, particularly Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of agencies and Parastatals on the concept and practice of the IPSAS each accounting system which the Government is transiting to.
