ONE LAST NOTE: I started as a foster for a great local Rescue called BLACK DOG SECOND CHANCE. I quickly decided I wanted to get more involved and save more dogs quicker so I started my own rescue. That may sound easy- it wasnt! I had no help, no idea and just did it anyways (when I get an idea in my head thats how I do things.) I started by myself by pulling 1 dog at a time from Death row shelters down south by listing them on my personal fb page...as someone wanted one I Posted, I worked with volunteers at the shelter to get the dog some vetting and then go crazy finding a way to get it up here. I had success and then decided to make it a real corporation so I spent a month, day in and day out personally writing the incorporation paperwork because I didnt have thousands to give an attorney to do it. ( I helped one local rescuer who was starting her own out by showing her exactly how to do that paperwork too because I knew she didnt have the money either and I believe in rescuers working together). That rescue is HARLEYS MISSION OF HOPE GERMAN SHEPHERD AND LARGE BREED RESCUE. Soon after starting this rescue, I had the privilege of meeting a woman named Julie Masterman who was the founder of SADIES SAFE HARBOR RESCUE. She and I quickly hit it off and she taught me a lot quickly! She passed away unexpectedly a year ago. I miss her very much! I then spent 3 months writing a 56 page application to get our 501c3 status- again saving thousands of dollars! All through this I worked full time and kept saving lives with the help of the volunteers that joined our fur child! Truthfully this rescue completely took over my life 24/7/365 and I lived and breathed for the rescue dogs! I along the way have met several other rescuers whether at events or on line or on the phone. The women of BUFFALO CARES, THE SILVER LINING FOR PIT BULLS and JOYFUL RESCUES were all a pleasure to meet! My point here is this- there are SEVERAL great rescues here in WNY! There are many more than I listed here so PLEASE look For them! Google buffalo or wny rescues and find them and LIKE their pages on fb and get involved! As a dissolving rescue we had to choose a beneficiary and our board chose BUDDYS SECOND CHANCE RESCUE for a few reasons but that doesnt mean any rescue is better than another and I can assure you---ALL of them NEED HELP!! They need fosters, volunteers, donations and more! So even though Our Fur Child is closing- there are many local rescues to help out so PLEASE JUST DO IT!
