ONLY A PROUD CANADIAN NEED APPLY! Prior to the last election - TopicsExpress

ONLY A PROUD CANADIAN NEED APPLY! Prior to the last election some Liberals sent out mailings suggesting that displaying the flag on the backpack is no longer a given. They seem to suggest that Canadians are not as proud as we once were and as respected. Now today I read that the Liberal candidate in Simcoe-Grey feels the same. I am always proud of Canada and its people and what we have accomplished. Each party and its leaders have helped build a great country. More importantly it is not just the politicians and our leaders that give us reason to be proud. Its the people, people who built the railroad, who settled parts of Canada no one else could. It is the men and women who have fought for and protected us in two world wars and countless other missions around the world. Its Terry Fox, Team Canadas winning, its the kid in your community who donates his savings to buy medicine for a kid in another country. Its a community like mine that raised thousands of dollars for a family who almost suffered horrible tragedy and still struggle today. Yes, our Prime Ministers are important but so are the people who have led without sitting in the Prime Ministers chair. So what I am saying is this, if you are not proud of what we are, who we are, and why we are such a great country, then dont pretend to think you have what it takes to represent the very people who have made Canada great. As elected officials we are not the guardians of national pride, we are not responsible for national pride, we contribute just like millions of other Canadians have and do. So if you are so arrogant that you think you, your views and only those views are what makes Canada great then find another job. I am proud of our Prime Minister and those who came before him regardless of party. As an elected official I have watched Members from all parties fight for what they believe. I have always respected those Liberal Prime Ministers and NDP politicians who have fought for a better Canada even when I did not agree with the approach. If you want to sit in Parliament then I suggest you start by loving your country, being proud of the people who have built it and be ready to fight to make it even better no matter what side of the political spectrum you fall under.
