ONLY IN NYERI THREE people, among them two nurses and Nyeri governor political adviser Simon Wachira, were injured during an emergency drill in Nyeri town yesterday. One nurse sustained hands injuries and was taken to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital. The three were demonstrating how to attend to an emergency case and had just attended to a motorcycle rider and put him in an ambulance. However, the driver started off the vehicle at a high speed ejecting them out of the vehicle and they fell on the tarmac road. The incident took place after Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua flagged off eight amabulances in the town. Wachira, who was the master of ceremony, was still holding the microphone when he fell off from the ambulance. They were helped by some Good Samaritans to get to their feet as others picked their shoes which were scattered on the road. The function had to be delayed for about 10 minutes as residents rushed to get another ambulance to rush those injured to the hospital. Wachira, whose suit got soiled, had to be attended at the back of the dais during the midday incident. The governor, who was the chief guest, with his cabinet, witnessed the incident. Health Executive Charles Githinji had notified Gachagua of the emergency drill to demonstrate how to assist a motor vehicle rider involved in an accident with a vehicle. Githinji said such cases happen where people trying to evacuate victims of an accident are also injured. He said there is a need to have enough resources to respond to such accidents.
