ONLY TWO MORE MATCHES UNTIL THE TITLE IS OURS! As promised, here is our stinging report of our match yesterday against Hydel that secured our spot in the semi-finals of the Manning Cup competition. ---------------------------------------- Collegemen, The Great College on Friday, November 8, gave a command performance on the Constant Spring Football Field when we defeated the 2012 Manning Cup Finalist, Hydel High 4 - 0! Following-up on their brilliant 4 -2 come-from-behind victory against Charlie Smith High on Monday, November 4, JC took charge of the game from the initial whistle and never looked back! The passes were slick, the coordination precise as the True Blue Warriors repeatedly infiltrated Hydels 18 yard box as they zeroed in on goal! It wasnt long before the imposing and skillful Sheldon McCoy (#20) latched onto a ball from a well orchestrated move by inspirational captain Junior Flemmings (#7) and fired home into goal in the 18th minute! There was a tremendous roar, accompanied by blaring vuvuzelas as True Blue Disciples celebrated! JC 1- Hydel High 0! The Great College continued to dominate the game on a wet, partially waterlogged field and was duly rewarded in the 30th minute when McCoy increased JCs lead to 2 goals with a well-placed header into goal! JC 2 - Hydel High 0! This was the score heading into half-time. On the resumption of play the Blue Machine continued to push for more goals. Hydel High counter-attacked on several occasions but their efforts were thwarted by good defensive work by JC. In the 77th minute JC was awarded a free kick just on the outside of Hydels 18 yard box. Captain Flemmings stepped up and shot at goal. The ball rebounded from an opponent into the path of the captain who booted home past a bewildered Hydel goalkeeper! JC 3 - Hydel High 0! JC pressed forward relentlessly and with time running out, Akino Bailey (#17) scored a beauty in the 91st minute to give JC a comfortable 4 - 0 win over Hydel High! The victory was a total team effort as every player stepped up his game in this match. The defeated coach of the Hydel High team, Geoffrey Maxwell, commented in the after-match interview with the media that JC is a quality team and he is giving them the nod to win the Manning Cup this season, not just because they have beaten Hydel but because they are the best team in the competition! The Great College has now marched into the semi-finals and awaits the winner of the Excelsior High/Ascot High encounter. The semi-finals will be played on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at a venue to be announced (probably the National Stadium). I am hopeful that we will meet Excelsior High in the semi-finals as we need to set the records straight! Collegemen, we are two (2) matches away from winning the Manning Cup for this 2013 football season. Lets keep the support rock solid. Rally roun our team! Fervet...forever!
