OPEN CLASSES (FALL) PSYCH 2 Sec. 3361 - W: 3:45 PM - 6:55 PM – Take it one day a week. Or Sec. 0631 – Mon&Wed: 8:00 AM - 9:25 AM Did you know that there are still openings in an exciting transferrable psychology course that counts for Life Science transfer credit to CSUs? You need to have previously taken an Introductory Psychology course (Psych 1 or its equivalent with a grade of “C” or better) to be eligible for Psych 2 enrollment. Psych 2 is basically a behavioral neuroscience course which means you would have opportunities to learn about how the nervous system is important for behavior. You would especially get to learn about how the brain functions to influence behavior due to brain circuits and their underlying neurophysiology. You probably have already heard about neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin as well as brain regions like the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, hypothalamus, and hippocampus. You might have previously learned about neural substrates important for decision-making, emotional processing, learning, memory, and sleep. Psych 2 will facilitate your in-depth knowledge about this important information as well as much more. Have you ever wondered what brain dysfunction is correlated with clinical syndromes like schizophrenia, anxiety or mood disorders? Are you interested in understanding research related to neurological disorders like Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s diseases or what are the neural underpinnings of ADHD, substance abuse disorders or autism spectrum disorder? Learning to better comprehend what is happening for people who are behaving in adaptive or maladaptive ways can be accomplished by enrolling in one of the open sections of Psych 2 at Pierce College for the Fall 2014 semester.
