We are happy to provide you 5 updates: 1) Weekly Significant Incident, 2) LAFD Response Times, 3) LAFD Online, 4) Ebola, and 5) LAFD Hiring... 1) This weeks significant incident recap: Friday, November 14: At 11:15 a.m., LAFD units responded to a reported chimney fire at 10456 Lindbrook Dr. Arriving units found smoke showing from the attic. A Greater Alarm assignment was called to battle the stubborn attic fire and companies did extensive salvage work in the two-story single family residence. Knockdown was called after 1 hour and 15 minutes. No injuries and cause and damage estimates remain under investigation. (FS 71) 2) Did you know you can check out LAFD Response Times, due to FireStatLA Open Data: LAFD.org/performance and the raw data used to calculate our response information are available as a spreadsheet at https://data.lacity.org. The data include City-wide metrics and information for 102 individual first-in districts. The calculated response data will be updated on our website monthly while the spreadsheet on the open data website will be updated quarterly. 3) Regarding our LAFD Online: Phase II is underway with the focus on re-vamping the LAFD Information Portal and continuing to de-bug and upgrade the new LAFD.org. 4) With Ebola still being a fairly hot topic. Please know LAFD continues to work with allied agencies to monitor the potential spread of the Ebola Virus Disease. We take this seriously, however theres no need to be overly concerned. 5) Hiring: The first LAFD Recruit Training Academy of the FY will begin on Monday, December 29, with 60 recruits. Prospective recruits are being notified of selection. The written test was given on October 11 for the second Recruit Training Academy. Interview / Background Appointment will begin in late October/early November. The second Recruit Academy in March 2015 will enroll 45 recruits. Stratified Random Sampling for the third Recruit Academy class of 60 was conducted this week. The SRS pool was expanded from 300 to 500. We look forward to having more boots on the ground.
