OPINION- It may be time to allow the social conservatives to move on. Their efforts cannot long succeed. If they form a religious party it will quickly collapse after one election cycle. Afterwards, allow them to move over to the Democrats if they want. Some will, but most wont. Instead, theyll abandon their current leaders (thank God) and get back in line with the rest of the regular GOP rank-and-file. If they threaten to quit politics and burn down the whole nation, a favorite refrain, warn that theyll end losing their tax free status. Itll be bipartisan, so make sure they understand what the word forever means. Its not nice to threaten an entire nation with socialism (for God). Its not nice to try and rewrite the Constitution either. These guys lead the effort.
