OPINION: Edward Snowden is no patriot No. he is certainly not. a true patriot, especially one who believes in his cause as both just and constitutionally protected, would have taken his case to court. Instead Snowden leaked it and fled to the worlds actual totalitarian fascist states like china and russia. Both China and Russia have a terrible track record on human rights, and are centuries behind on issues of personal liberty and privacy. Russian president Vladamir Putin supports another true tyrant in bashar al assad, the bloodiest most evil dictator in the world right now, in his atrocious war on the very people of syria and the freedom they currently fight for. Now putin (the fascist) called ed snowden a "hero". This is not an endorsement anyone wants to get. Ouch! Snowden would have had his day in court in and been a true hero if he had not fled and rather taken his case to court. Now he can never return to the greatest country on earth. He has lost the greatest asset a person seeking freedom can possibly attain, a US citizenship. he must live his life looking over his shoulder, having his voice muted and his message distorted into a mere talking point in a right-wing, libertarian agenda. The most ironic thing about the whole situation is that President Obama sincerely agrees with snowden, that the NSA should have additional oversight as well as a slight reform (not overhaul) of the patriot act. The true reason Obama did not bring up the issue on his own, is simply because his agenda was focused on more important issues, such as wages, jobs, income inequality, economic recovery and tax reform. and the NSA was allowing him to be so effective at preventing wasteful and time consuming disasters (such as bush allowed on 9/11) that he did not want to potentially harm the program, or change the subject of the debate, before he had a chance to pass immigration reform, which is widely believed to potentially be his biggest 2nd term accomplishment. The debate Snowden sparked will continue with or without him, as it always has. The idea that the govt is watching is nothing new, that is why we elect our representatives. And they need votes, more than anything else, in order to keep their power. Snowden bypassed our democratic process, our legal process, and usurped his authority. He committed an act, i beleive with good intentions, that was not only illegal but also put many lives at risk, and strained diplomatic relations, all while failing to make a comprehensive legal case against the NSA. _Political Observer, Mohamed El-Darwish
