OPP Begins Fall Seatbelt Campaign The OPP’s fall seatbelt campaign has begun. The campaign, which started Thursday and runs until Sunday October 13th, will focus on seatbelt enforcement and educating drivers in an effort to save lives. Police say the lack of an “occupant restraint” was a factor in 43 deaths this year in collisions on OPP patrolled roadways. Last year’s fall seat belt campaign resulted in more than 5,000 charges being laid. OPP say non-compliance with seat belt use remains one of the four major causes of fatalities in motor vehicle collisions along with speeding, impaired and distracted driving. The penalty for not buckling up is $240.
