OPSU: CNFR Draws Near Submitted by OPSU Rodeo Team Goodwell, Okla. – The days are winding down before the start of the 2014 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Rodeo Team will send nine athletes to the Rose Bowl of College Rodeo June 15-21. Joe Frost and Shade Etbauer will be busy at both ends of the arena throughout the week as they aim for the prestigious all-around title. Frost will compete in the steer wrestling and bull riding while Etbauer will be in the steer wrestling and the saddle bronc riding. Joining Etbauer in the classic event of rodeo will be Nat Stratton and Joe Harper. Stratton will be a rookie to the limelight of the CNFR; however Harper is a veteran in the Casper Events Center. He was last year’s Reserve National Champion Saddle Bronc Rider and will look to build on his previous win. Also having great success in Wyoming last year was Orin Larsen. He will look to repeat his national title in the bareback riding. Larsen will be joined at the bucking chutes by teammate Logan Glendy. Rounding out the rough stock events, recent OPSU graduate Jeff Bertus will return to the CNFR once again in the bull riding. At the timed event end of the arena, Caleb Bullock will be a strong force in the tie down roping. The sophomore cowboy roped consistently throughout the year and should continue the trend in Casper. Shelbie Weeder, Central Plains Student Director, will also compete in the team roping. She will heel for Parker Warner from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The action begins with performances on Sunday, June 15, with the first round of the bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding and breakaway roping. The week will continue with two days of slack followed by a series of evening performances.
