OPSU: Sunny Saturday, Smiling Graduates Released by OPSU Campus Communications Goodwell, Okla. — It was a beautiful Saturday morning as many proud family and friends made their way to Oscar Williams Field House on the OPSU campus to support over 170 OPSU students as they received their diplomas at the 2014 Commencement Ceremony held May 17. Joel Garber directed the OPSU concert band as they played the processional while the graduates took their seats. Reverend Jacki Banks of Morning Star United Methodist Church in Guymon, Okla. gave the invocation. Garber led the OPSU Chamber Singers as they performed The Star-Spangled Banner and the OPSU Alma Mater. President Dave Bryant welcomed the family and friends of the graduates before introducing the speaker, Chancellor Glen D. Johnson, Oklahoma State System of Higher Education. Chancellor Johnson congratulated the graduates and encouraged them saying, Dont stop when you hit a bump in the road. The senior class recognized Dr. Peter Camfield, Dean of Agriculture, for his outstanding service to the University. William Parks of Tyrone, Okla., received the 2014 J.R.P. Sewell Award. Parks earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Business Administration. The award recognizes scholarship, leadership, and citizenship among students attending OPSU. OPSU retiring faculty members, David Elder, Larry Hough, Dr. Loyet Shafer, Dr. Russell Thatcher and Dr. Kathleen Turner were recognized for their years of service to OPSU. Diplomas were awarded and following a benediction by Pastor Dale Stephens of Living Word Fellowship in Guymon, Okla., the graduates along with their family and friends were invited to a cookout in the University Clock Tower Plaza courtesy of Seaboard Foods, the Methodist Men of Guymon, and the Office of the President.
