OREGON AND NORTHWESTERN NEVADA FIRE UPDATE: GREAT NEWS to report!! Just read. OREGON - BAILEY BUTTE FIRE FINAL REPORT: Former Waterman Complex. Grant County, near Mitchell. Lightning caused. ODF has command of the fire. Type II IMT. 12,520 acres, 90 percent contained. The complex has become just one active fire now, the Bailey Butte Fire. All other fires in the complex have been contained. The Bailey Butte Fire had minimal fire behavior yesterday. Fire is burning in a mix of timber and grasslands. Command is going back to the local unit at 6 am tomorrow morning. PINE CREEK COMPLEX FINAL REPORT: Wheeler County, near Fossil. Lightning caused. BLM has command of the fire. A national Type II IMT utilized. 102,001 acres, 95 percent contained. This complex of fires consists of the Pine Creek Fire, Jack Knife Fire, Black Rock Fire, and the Donnybrook Fire. Minimal fire behavior yesterday. as more rain hit the complex yesterday. The fire is burning in grasslands and timber. Command is going back to the local unit at 6 am tomorrow morning. BRIDGE 99 COMPLEX FINAL REPORT: Deschutes County, near Camp Sherman. Lightning caused. Oregon interagency team has command with Applegate Fire District Chief Brett Fillis as IC. 5960 acres in size, unknown percent containment. This is a complex of the southern half of the Bear Butte 2 fire, and the entirety of the Bridge 99 Fire. The fire is burning in timber. Command is going back to the local unit at 6 am Sunday morning. Demobilization of resources will ramp up today. BIGHAM COMPLEX FINAL REPORT: Willamette National Forest east of Eugene and Salem in the high Cascades. Lightning caused. US Forest Service has command of the fire. Type II IMT. 452 acres total. The complex saw minimal behavior yesterday as it was hit again by thunderstorms packing rain. Complex is burning in timber, including old growth stands. Complex is also burning in rugged wilderness. Command is being transferred back to the local unit at 6 am tomorrow morning. Both fires remaining in the complex are now in wilderness areas. They will be allowed to burn under management objectives as beneficial ground fires. SUNFLOWER FIRE FINAL REPORT: Umatilla National Forest nearest to Monument. The Forest Service has command of this fire. A type II IMT is being utilized. 7170 acres in size, 80 percent contained. Minimal fire behavior yesterday. Fire is burning in timber. Command will transfer back to the local unit at 6 am tomorrow morning. Demobilization of resources will ramp up today. LOGGING UNIT COMPLEX: Warm Springs Reservation in Central Oregon. Lightning caused. The complex is under command of an Interagency Type I IMT. 10,488 acres, 60 percent contained. The complex is burning in timber. Minimal fire behavior. The recent rains along with the arrival of more ground resources has won the momentum here. Crews have made excellent progress and this complex looks to be well in hand by Monday. Additional ground resources continue to arrive. Air National Guard Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters are assisting with the complex. Full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, and helicopters fighting the fire. Total personnel - 1291 OCHOCO COMPLEX: Crook County, near Post. Lightning caused. A national type II IMT has command of the complex. 10,195 acres, 59 percent containment for the complex. Minimal fire behavior yesterday. There are 4 fires in the complex. The Fox Fire is the most active fire and the one with the least amount of containment. Additional ground resources have arrived at the base camp. The rains and change in conditions have given crews the upper hand. Expect this complex to be wrapped up by Monday. Full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, and helicopters fighting the fires of the complex. Total personnel - 631 KITTEN COMPLEX: Malheur County. Lightning caused. A national type I IMT has command of the complex. 20,662 acres, zero percent contained. This complex is made up of 4 fires total. The Brogan Hill Fire, the Stemler Fire, the Kitten Canyon Fire, and the Juniper Fire. All fires are at least 600 acres with the Brogan Hill fire being the largest at 15,000 acres. The fires are burning mostly in grasslands which lead to rapid rates of spread. Active fire behavior was seen at the Brogan Hill, Stemler, Camp Creek, and Kitten Canyon fires with surface runs and spotting. Resources and command are also in charge of finishing mopping up the Eastern half of the nearby Buzzard Complex. A full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, helicopters, and air tankers are fighting the fires in the complex. Total personnel - 309 CAMP CREEK FIRE: Malheur County, near Juntura. Lightning caused. An Oregon interagency type II IMT has command of the fire. 5300 acres, 40 percent contained. This fire was part of the Kitten Complex, but will be managed independently as a separate incident. The fire is burning mostly in grasslands which lead to rapid rates of spread. Active fire behavior was seen yesterday with surface runs and spotting. Resources and command are also in charge of finishing mopping up the Western half of the nearby Buzzard Complex. A full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, helicopters, and air tankers are fighting the fire. Total personnel - 52 RYE VALLEY FIRE: Baker County near Huntington. Lightning caused. An Oregon interagency type II IMT led by Dan Thorpe from the Central Point office of ODF has command of the fire. 1392 acres, 20 percent contained. This fire was part of the Kitten Complex, but will be managed independently as a separate incident. The fire is burning mostly in grasslands which lead to rapid rates of spread. Active fire behavior was seen yesterday with surface runs and spotting. A full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, helicopters, and air tankers are fighting the fire. Total personnel - 159 NORTHWESTERN NEVADA - MALT FIRE: The Malt Fire started in Northwestern Nevada just below the Oregon State line and about 20 miles from the California border. It has now burned into Oregon on the Lakeview BLM district. Lightning caused. BLM has command of the fire being manged out of the Lakeview Office. 1400 acres, 60 percent contained. Fire is burning grass, sagebrush, and junipers. Moderate fire behavior yesterday. Full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, and helicopter fighting the fire. Total personnel - 204.
