ORGANIC APPLES AND FREE APPLE CIDER AND ITALIAN SAUSAGE TASTING SATURDAY! Previously, we have been supplied with apples and apple products from The Farm at Sunnyside in Rappahanock but unfortunately they will not have apples this year (they have had to heavily prune to get their trees to fruit every year and not every other year). In the meantime I have connected with one of the other rare organic tree fruit farms in the region, Oylers Organic Farm about two hours away in south-central Pennsylvania. (Because of the East Coasts humidity, it is very hard to do organic tree fruit here.) I just picked up our first batch of apples, juice, and cider! This will all be available for Saturdays Farm Store Hours. Also, really great, is they do not pasteurize their cider, but that means that it has to be refrigerated and drunk within two weeks. (A good rule of thumb is the the most nutritious food is food that will actually go bad!) So, in short, I need to move it all in 2 weeks. This is a bit of an experiment. To that end, we are doing free tasting of the cider tomorrow! I neglected not pack a lunch when I picked this batch up, so I thought it prudent to drink a quart of the cider in the van...and it is GREAT! Also, I will have complimentary hot Italian sausages on the grill (while they last!)! What could be better than cold, sweet, tangy cider to cut our hot, spicy Italian grillers!? Shazam!
