ORTOM CONDEMNS VIOLENCE IN GBOKO, CANVASSES PEACEFUL POLLS All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Benue State, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has condemned the crises that broke out between rival political parties in Tyeku, Gboko local government area last Saturday resulting in the infliction of injuries on persons as well as destruction of campaign property. Chief Dr Ortom stated that coming on the heels of efforts by the leadership of the Mdzough U Tiv, and the... Prayer Pilgrimage for Peace convened by Catholic Bishops in Benue State at which all political leaders subscribed to violence - free polls the crisis was unfortunate, reprehensible, and unacceptable. He noted particularly that the leaders of the two dominant political parties in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governor Gabriel Suswam and Senate Minority leader, Senator George Akume, made the pledge for peaceful, free and fair elections before God and the people in the presence of the Tor Tiv, Orchivirigh Dr Alfred Torkula, and other royal fathers last Saturday in Gboko. The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade, and Investment stressed that the commitment was binding on the members and supporters of the two parties and the entire citizens of the state hence the need to end all hostilities with immediate effect and to keep to the terms of the covenant of peace. He called on security agents and law enforcement authorities to identify, arrest and prosecute those culpable so as to serve as a deterrent to others. A statement signed by Mr Tahav Agerzua, Media Adviser, Ortom Governorship Organization, quoted the APC governorship candidate, Chief Dr Ortom, as sympathizing with the victims of the crisis and appealing to them to leave vengeance in the hands of God who he said was a just Judge that possessed power as well as all things and gave them to whosoever He wanted hence there was no need to resort to self help. Signed : Tahav Agerzua, Media Adviser, Ortom Governorship Organization. Monday 5th January 2015.
