OSUN GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: apc wins Category: NewsPublished on Sunday, 10 August 2014 0 0 . We’re Waiting For INEC’s Official Results - PDP . 150 APC Members Were Brutalised - Gov Aregbesola . How We Were Arrested, Dehumanised - Lai Mohammed The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, last night, won the Osun State Governorship election in at least 23 local governments out of the 30 local governments in the state, to beat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results from polling units have indicated that the election was keenly contested. Though the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not officially declared the result as at press time, those collated by our reporters in Osun State indicated the APC had won in 23 Local Government Areas, while results from areas considered to be the stronghold of Senator Omisore, indicated that the PDP candidate led in at least four local governments. The local governments where APC is in clear lead included Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Ejigbo, Ifelodun, Osogbo, Olorunda, Boripe, and Ife North. Others are Irewole, Odo Otin, Iwo, Egbedore, Atakumosa West, Atakumosa East, Oriade, Isokan and Ila Irepodun. The APC is in clear lead also in Orolu, Ede North, Ede South, Obodun, and Ifedayo. The Local Governments where Omisore had an upper hand included Ife Central, Ife East, Ife South and Odo-Otin, which was still in contention as at press time. In Osogbo, the Osun State capital, supporters of the APC had begun to celebrate the party’s apparent victory, though the PDP issued a statement alleging that those results, which the APC relied upon to declare itself victorious, were not genuine. The statement signed by Diran Odeyemi, the Director of Media & Strategy of Omisore’s Campaign Organisations said, “By circulating fake results, the APC intends to prove to the world that the election was rigged even when in reality the collation process was yet to start before its illegal action. The party has also proceeded to direct its supporters to commence celebration in towns and villages. Even in wards where the APC lost, the supporters followed the script by rolling out drums in celebration of a non-existing victory. This is also part of a ploy to declare the final official results as manipulated in preparation for their usual tribunal battle. “It is an elaborate plot to steal the People’s mandate through the backdoor as the outgoing governor did after 2007 election. We, therefore, urge our teeming supporters to ignore the fabrications of the APC. We inform Nigerians and the good people of Osun State that the PDP is leading based on results collated so far and any concerted results has no basis in facts and legality. We await the official results from the electoral commission and we are convinced that the final results will confirm the electoral victory of Senator Iyiola Omisore.” In spite of the PDP’s position, results collated by our reporters in Osun State indicated that, in Ila-Orangun, the home of the former chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande the party cleared all the units, with the PDP trailing behind.
