OSUN LECTURERS NOW RETIRES AT AGE 65 Succour has finally come the way of lecturers in the State of Osun- owned tertiary institution as the State Government at its last Executive Council meeting signed into law a bill assuring new retirement age for them. The bill, according to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere tagged Osun Tertiary Institutions Academic Staff Retirement Age 2014 has placed the lecturers in the state owned institution at par with their counterpart at the Federal Government Universities. According to the commissioner, the new retirement age is sixty- five (65) from the former sixty (60) years as obtainable in the federal universities, saying the state of Osun extend the gesture to other institutions. He revealed that the bill has three sections, as section one deals with the time of commencement of the law, while the second part deals with issue of short life and third part deals with issue of punishment on age falsification. Similarly, government has also signed the State Water Sector Bill 2014, which provide for the right of citizens access to basic water and sanitation service. Akere disclosed that the bill would provide proper framework for the articulation of the water sector, which if effectively implemented would facilitate the realisation of three out the state government six- point integral action plan. He added that the bill would help sole the challenges of Urban- Rural water supply and guarantee access to portable water supply, thereby reducing the menace of water borne related diseases in the state. “This bill will also help to set standard norms for service provision and tariffs in respect of water service in the state”, the commissioner added.
