Top slots hit 260p for Heifers 217p for Bulls and 209p for Steers. Highest price in the lump was £1494 for a Steer. Bottom book of 120p for a light Charolais Bull. Keep them coming and thank you for your support FAT HOGGETS: (2612) An excellent entry of 2612 hoggs on Wednesday 12 March 2014 this entry was very similar entry to the same day in 2013 with the average being up by 13p/kg, with an overall average of 213.5p/kg. Only 175 light hoggs were forward levelling at 210p/kg with the tops of 221p/kg from J G Ellis Ty Newydd with 29kg hoggs at £64. The standard hoggs totalling 584 averaged 214.5p/kg with the top call of £81 for 35kg hoggs being 231p/kg from C W Hitchen Top Farm. The 1221 medium hoggs averaged 213p/kg with M & S Jones Lower Forest Farm selling 43.5kg hoggs up to £103 or 237p/kg. The 530 heavier and overweights averaged 204p/kg and 179.5p/kg respectively with the averaged per head for the two sections at £98.70. Superlights to 207p average 200p Lights to 221p average 210p, Standards to 231p average 214.5p, Mediums to 237p average 213p, Heavy’s to 224p average 204p, Others to 196p average 179.5p. Overall average 213.5p. More hoggets are required each week to meet the increasing demand. Facilities to sort large consignments are readily available FAT EWES: (514) A reduced entry met with a stronger trade for everything on show and an increased overall average of £50. A top price of £99 went to a cracking pen of 5 ewes from H E Pugh, Kinton. 15 Rams averaged £63 with a top price of £86.50 going to a pair of tups from Evans Bros, Rhiwlas. Please Note : All sheep entering the Market must be tagged. CALVES: (34) Totally inadequate numbers for the amount of buyers attending and consequently a good all round trade for continentals. Best Aberdeen Angus Bulls topping at £325 from Messrs Holland Ashes Farm. Limousin Bulls to £275 from Messrs Evans Halton Farm £240 from Messrs Ellis Pentrewern. Hereford Bulls to £250 & £240 from Messrs Edwards Tynymaes. British Blue Bulls to £240 from Messrs Wigley Drenewydd. Limousin Heifers to £300 from Messrs Roberts Ty Issa £246 from Messrs Moore Oaks Farm £240 from Messrs Owen Tanycoed. Simmental Heifers to £270 from Messrs Jones Lyneal Hall. Friesian Bulls to £101 from Cefncoed Farms £85 from Messrs Jones Lyneal Hall. STORE CATTLE: (198) Just shy of 200 cattle forward for the 1st of the Spring sales met with another confident trade. A top price of £1300 (224p/kg) went to a Charolais x steer aged 22 months sold by D G Williams, Llandrillo. The same vendor’s excellent show continued with 2 bunches of Charolais x steers aged 17-22 months selling for £1260 (244p/kg) & £1170 (241p/kg) and a bunch of 5 steers aged 12-17 months selling for £1150 (261p/kg) and a single steer aged 14 months making £990 (248p/kg). 118 steers averaged £988 (216p/kg) with notable prices including: H M Owen, Penybontfawr presented an excellent run of British Blue x steers aged 14-17 months selling for £1085 (252p/kg), £1070 (258p/kg), £985 (251p/kg)& £1100 (244p/kg). £1070 (243p/kg) and £965 (254p/kg) paid for 2 Limousin x steers aged 15 & 14 months sold by G B & D Lloyd Roberts, Rhosygadfa £770 (248p/kg) paid for a Limousin x steer aged 17 months sold by J E Rogers, Old Racecourse 80 heifers averaged £835 (206p/kg) with notable prices including: H E & M L Evans, Rhydycroesau topped a good run of Charolais x heifers aged 10-16 months with prices including: £840 (240p/kg), £775 (254p/kg), £740 (247p/kg) & £760 (262p/kg). £755 (239p/kg) paid for 5 Charolais x heifers aged 10-12 months sold by G Ellis, Llanyllin. Demand was very brisk with some of the plain friesians especially dear.
