OT: We watched an incredible movie called Out of the Blue. Based on true events, this is the story of a deranged shooter who snaps one day and kills 13 people in a sleepy village in New Zealand, an unprecedented tragedy for that small nation. Unlike sensationalized Hollywood productions, this indy flick is a straightforward presentation of the events, without special effects or soundtrack. The film connects you with the experiences from the perspective of the police and victims, as they respond to the unfolding situation over a 24 hour period. Surprisingly well done, and I was also surprised to see actor Karl Urban in a lead role, who played Eomer in LOTR and Doctor McCoy in the rebooted Star Trek movies. Family suitability: somewhat bloody but not explicitly graphic, but emotionally too strong for young kids. Recommend teens and up. We got this from Netflix.
