Undocumented immigrants flocked to a handful of Colorado facilities Friday as the state began issuing drivers licenses to people in the country illegally. More than 9,500 people signed up in advance to apply for the licenses, but the state Department of Motor Vehicles devoted only five stations to process the applications, leading to long lines and complaints from immigration activists. Colorado is one of 11 states to pass such legislation. So many people tried to sign up in advance for appointments that the programs website briefly crashed last month, officials said. Applicants must show a passport from their native county and some form of ID proving theyve been in the U.S. for the last two years, like a utility bill.
