OUR CHILDREN ARE IN DANGER: DROP SOURCE 4 TEACHERS The Children First Team continues to demand that the Jersey City Board of Education drop Source4Teachers immediately in light of last weeks attack and other reckless offenses against our children. The board majority voted “Yes” this past June to renew Source4Teachers. Yet, none of them have responded to the attack at PS34 last week, where a third-grader was viciously slapped in front of his classmates by a Source4Teachers sub. This attack is just one in a long list of offenses by Source 4 Teachers, the company renewed this year at a cost of over $4 million to send substitute teachers to Jersey City Public Schools. Children First has received reports of subs sleeping in the classrooms, using cellphones and coming to work intoxicated, issues that have been brought up numerous times to the members of the Board of Education that have ignored the complaints. Last year, a Source4Teachers sub lost a prek student at PS3 -- the child was found outside of the building in the snow by a staffer. And Jersey City Public School students are not the only children who have been victimized by Source4Teachers subs. Last year, two Wayne Township public school children were reportedly hit in the head by a Source4Teachers sub. And the Washington Township Board of Education voted to end their contract with Source4Teachers, citing the continuing complaints from teachers and subs regarding the service and lack of expected savings. Gerald Lyons, Lorenzo Richardson and Gina Verdibello of The Children First Team have spoken out against Source 4 Teachers at board meetings on numerous occasions, citing how the safety and well-being of our children are far more important than the supposed cost-savings the district is claiming (Watch Gerald speak in video below) . Yet the board members who voted “YES” refuse to be accountable to the children of Jersey City.
