Welcome to todays devotional and never forget that gold medals arent made of gold, they are made of sweat, determination and uncommon determination to hold on. So, when John was cast into prison about December, A.D. 27, depression, confusion and frustration took over. About June, A.D. 28, Herod Antipas put John in prison because John had reproved him for taking his brothers wife (Mt 14:3; MK 6:17). According to Josephus, the place of Johns imprisonment and death was the castle of Machaerus (or Makor), east of the Dead Sea (The Antiquities of the Jews, 18;5.1,2). It was built by Herod the Great, and was not very far from that part of the Jordan in which John had baptized, so it is probable that Herod had resided in this castle when he went to hear John preach (Mt 14:4; MK 6:18). We learn elsewhere that Herod felt kindly towards John (MK 6:20), and this fact, coupled with the statement that John called two of his disciples to him, suggests that John must have been held as an honored prisoner with liberties like those accorded Paul at Caesarea (Acts 24:23). So, despite his past determination, John was hit by intense depression and discouragement. As 2014 comes to an end, refuse to allow these two poisons to locate your address. Remember that even the great Elijah at a stage, had to run for his dear life from Jezebel because he probably felt that God was too slow. So, dont give up. Hear Chuck Norris: anything worth achieving will always have obstacles in the way and you have got to have that drive and determination to overcome this obstacle en route to whatever you want to accomplish. Satan wants to swallow your goal through the poisoned arrow called GOD IS SLOW. Never go backwards, always move forward; be the hero of your life not the victim. You may not control all the events that happen to you but you can decide not to be reduced by them. Wake up each morning and declare: No event shall reduce me; i refuse depression, fear of the future and asking God questions. I trust Him because He is all wise and no matter what happens, He is taking me to my promised land. I shall see you in the land called Success. Pray now. Pray seriously!
