OUR DESTINY: AKS 2015 GUBERNATORIAL RACE -FOR THE RECORD. Ndito-Eka, In seeking ways to ensure that the 2015 gubernatorial race in the state is run on issues , we have, after due consultation and as promised, arrived at one of the programs that will ensure issues-based campaign BACKGROUND. It is often difficult to hold a man to promises he probably never made or made on the spur of the moment. Consequently, we have come up with the above program which shall a) Have SAME set of questions to be answered by each of the candidates. b) These questions will be made available to each candidate well ahead of time, and recorded at their convenience. The candidates will also be at liberty to undertake/oversee the editing of the program to fit into a one hour window. Considering it is no the essence of the program to embarrass any candidate, multiple recording takes will be allowed, and thus the need for the editing. As the candidates run tight schedules, they will be allowed flexible and adequate time to prepare for the program. c) The recording and airing of the program will be pre-sponsored, thereby making no financial demands whatsoever on the candidate. As a matter of fact, no level of appreciation will be entertained from the candidates. They will however be at liberty to air the program as often as they wish, after the initial broadcast. d) All candidates will be pre-recorded before broadcast. This is to ensure that no candidate is given any semblance of advantage. TIMELINES January 17th-25th: Communication of the questions to the various candidates. January 25th- 31st: Candidates are to pick a convenient date within the period to have their recording done. February 1st-5th: Broadcast of the edited recordings of each candidate. THE QUESTIONS: After our initial posting of the above idea, we have received several suggestions from our sons and daughters on the questions that we should ask. Considering the essence of the program, we have avoided every question that is personal, and concentrated on the questions that we believe will address fundamental issues. Below are the questions that we eventually zeroed into. We are however still open to any other question(s) that you may strongly feel should be addressed, bearing in mind that the questions are not person-specific. The Questions are: AkwaAbasi Ibom State is accepted as a Christian state. What is Faith persuasion? Give us some insight into your background bringing out the salient points that should convince us of your capacity to govern the state. The above are basically insight into your background. On your programs and manifestos, we believe that every governance is like music, and that a good musician must be identified by a certain genre of music. In governance, you could play the music of Infrastructure, or Education, or Housing, or Industrialization etc. Would you like to be identified by any of these? Our outgoing governor can rightfully be nicknamed Mr. Infrastructure. What should we call you at the end of four years should you be elected as the next governor of the state? We will appreciate specific targets to be able to do reasonable assessment. For instance, if Education is your forte, will you like to say that AKS must be on the Top 10 or 15 list in WAEC result be the end of your four years, outside of which we could should judge you to have failed and probably not eligible for a reelection? If your music is Industrialization, or Job Creation, what measurable targets will you like us to hold you against? Virtually every program of government depends on funds and funding. What is your understanding of the financial standing of the present administration with respect to commitments, debt profile, investments, and ongoing projects? How do the above affect your projections, promises and commitments in your manifestoes? What is the present IGR of the state? What are your specific targets, and means of achieving such targets in the light of the present fall in oil prices and the inevitable consequences on federal allocations to the state that projected to fall by as much as 60-70%? The Winner-Takes-All practice of our political leaders is said to be responsible in part for the do-or-die attitude of our politicians. Do you believe in this? If you do, what is your promise to the people of this state on accommodating opposition in your cabinet and government? The state is said to be fragmented to some extent along ethnic lines? Do you have any specific plans, ideas, and game plan to fuse the state into one monolithic family of one father but different mothers? THE PLEDGE: We are also in the process of articulating the Pledge that every candidate should commit to. We will be delighted to have your version. Arc NYA-ETOK, Ezekiel. Nigeria.
