OUR OWN FIONA MERCY JEPLETING GETS FIRST CLASS HONOURS DEGREE IN AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AND GETS A WARMLY RECEPTION AT ELDORET INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT BY H.E THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR MR. DOMINIC BIWOTT Our own Nandi child; Fiona Mercy Jepleting studying at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK who received an outstanding First Class honours degree in Aerospace engineering. The news broke through Prof Ngugi Wa’ Thiongo sending a congratulatory message to her. The world-renowned writer said: “I would like to congratulate Jepleting for achieving the rare distinction of a First Class degree in Aerospace engineering. She is torchbearer and inspiration to young Kenyan women and Kenyan youth in general. For Kenya and Africa to lead the world in inventions and industry, we have to have more Jepletings. Africa must learn to accept nothing but the best. Well done Jepleting”. Mercy is the first woman from Terik community to study in the United Kingdom and she studies at University of Hertfordshire. Jepleting schooled at Meswo and St Mathews Septonok primary schools in Nandi County before joining Moi Girls High School, Eldoret. She is the daughter of a retired Anglican Church Priest, Rev Mark Sang from Nandi County. When the results were release on Friday June 6, Jepleting could not hide her joy. “I was expecting a First Class pass and the news of an outstanding first class is the best news of my life ever,” she said After her sterling performance, Jepleting now plans to go for post-graduate studies and plans to specialise in structural and design part of the Engineering. Jepleting was the only Kenyan in her class which had 10 other African students. His Excellency the Deputy Governor Mr Dominic Biwott Congratulated her upon landing today in the morning at Eldoret International Airport. His Excellency together with other County leaders,family members and friends received her at the Airport and accorded her an outstanding escort all the way to the County Headquarters where Mercy further received an amazing welcoming
