OUR SCORECARD- NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA, ANAMBRA STATE CHAPTER, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF COMR. INNOCENT NDUANYA. SO FAR, SO GOOD. By, Osita Onuko, Awka. 12-12-2014. Fellow Anambra youths, I greet you all at this moment when we are almost counting our days off the year 2014, indeed it has been a year of fulfillment in our own part; as such it has become imperative that we render an account of our stewardship to you who deemed it fit to hinge on us the privilege and right of piloting and conducting your affairs within a period of time. We appreciate the trust you reposed on us and we promise to continue to promote the interest of our teaming and energetic youths. When in march 2013, stakeholders of the youths in Anambra State gathered to nominate a handful of us to navigate the administrative wheel of the apex Socio-political youth organization in Nigeria, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter. Following the inability of the then commissioner for youths and sports Mr. Edozie Aroh to collaborate with the then incumbent government of the youth council led by Hon. Nwabufo Nwankwo which resulted in tremendous blunder that gave birth to a k-leg executive If I may borrow the words of former President Obasanjo when he referred to the PDP gubernatorial primary that produced the aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi as the flag bearer of the PDP in river state as having a k-leg (null and void). Contradictory to the foregoing assertion, the stakeholders of the council gathered and collectively endorsed few public spirited youths who has traceable track records in the youth council to saddle the activities of the council as substantive state executives. Since then we have worked hard tirelessly to ensure we take the youth council in Anambra State to the next level, from the wonderful level we met it to an excellent stage we dream for it. *The first step we took shortly after our emergence was to inaugurate local government executives for the 21 local government councils in Anambra State, we didnt stop at that as we moved into the rigorous and taskful task of creating a 21 man ward executives in the 326 wards we have in the state. We did this because of our firm understanding and believe in the potentials of the grass-root to reposition the council, we also wanted the masses no matter where they are to feel the impact of our administration. *Secondly in August 2013, for the first time in the history of the youth council, we toured the 21 local government areas in the state on election sensitization tour in preparation of the November 16th 2013 gubernatorial election in Anambra State. We took this very seriously because we knew that if electoral violence masterminded by the youths is curbed, then we may be obviously on our way to the freest and fairest election in Nigeria. We held live broadcasts in the various radio and TV stations across the state to preach the message of violent free election especially by the youths and we finally capped it with a three days fasting and prayers which was held at WARMEN interdenominational cathedral Awka officiated by Rev. Dr. Chima Ugochukwu. The resultant effect of all we did is visible in the manner the youths conducted themselves in election. *Thirdly, in November 8th-10th 2013, we held a camp convention which had in attendance youths from the various wards that make up the state numbering about 2000 of them were in attendance for the three days youth re-orientation convention held at Scripture Union Camp Ground NTEJE, Anambra State. It was an event worth the while, notable dignitaries across the state were in attendance too. *Another important step we took in 2013, was that prior to the November 16th gubernatorial election in the state, we took out time to peruse and constructively criticize the manifestos of all the party candidates contesting the election, the major basis of our criticism was on the area of youth incorporation into the state governance where our opinion would be regarded. We also sought after the manifesto with the best mechanism/blueprint for job creation for the unemployed youths. After our carefully and thoughtfully guarded assessment of the candidates, and town hall meetings, we were more convinced and assured with the manifesto of the APGA candidate, Chief Willlie Obiano as such we mobilized about three thousand well meaning youths of Anambra State to endorse his candidature at Aguleri Junction, Anambra East Local government area. We delivered in bulk the votes of the youths to him and we look forward to the pact he had with us to deliver on promise. *By January 2014, we made it a norm of the council that the heads of the three tiers that pilot the affairs of the council meet ones on monthly basis to brainstorm on issues concerning the youths of the states and form a common front in confronting the challenges that face the youths of the state. We must confess that we have achieved a lot through that medium. *Our sense of purpose and focus has influenced greatly our grass-root executives, between January 2014 and now, our branches in about 14 LGAs out of the 21 LGA in Anambra state has held mega youth summits and workshops. *Also within this short while, we have successfully and completely registered 14 new voluntary youth organizations, 3 faith based organizations and 16 non governmental organizations all resident in Anambra State. *We made Anambra State a brand name at the national level of the youth council, through our doggedness and fruitful contributions to national matters, we attracted recognition and regard to our beloved state which resulted in the emergence of our State Chairman Innocent Nduanya as the overall chairman of the council of state chairmen, an office he handles till date. *We participated in shaping and forming opinions at the just concluded National Conference, where we advocated through the various mouth piece of the youths In the CONFAB, for youth incorporation into the governance circle of the country as well our un quivering demand for job creation was made known. *Today in Anambra State, various youth bodies work hand in hand unlike before acrimony and rancor beclouded the day. We can confidently say that we contributed immensely in achieving that feat, as we held the first ever joint meeting of youth bodies by youth bodies devoid of the youth ministrys intermediary role. *In August this year, we embarked on a journey to Abuja with 45 youths, including student union government leaders of various higher institutions across the state to witness live the 2014 international youth day held on the 11th at the international Conference center (ICC), that journey afforded a lot of the participants/delegates the opportunity of not only being at the centre of governance Abuja, but also it was an intellectual exposition avenue for a lot of the participants. The most outstanding thing about that journey which is today adjudged as one of the best journey we have thus far gone in the history of the council, is that Anambra State was the only state that was invited to the FCT Abuja for the event chaired by the Vice President of the federal republic of Nigeria. Other states marked the day at their various state capitals. *Recently we received a pat in the back for a job well done so far as well the endorsement of the youngest royal father In the state, Igwe MacAnthony Chinedu Okonkwo, Eze di ORAMMA III of Alor town whom we also made a patron of the youths. Igwe K.O.N Orizu of Nnewi also handed us an award of excellence. *Just recently, we embarked on collecting CVs from unemployed youths, so far we have collected about 50 CVs and miraculously last week, seven out of the 50 CVs collected were called up for an interview at the headquarters of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Abuja. Hopefully they will be gainfully employed soonest. Finally for the records, let me make it clearly known that we achieved all this feat without a dime from any government any where. We have never received subventions nor grants from the present government neither did we from the past government we met in March 2013. All we achieved was made possible by the grace if almighty God who touched the heart of well meaning stakeholders, Sons and daughters of Anambra State to give material and advisory support to our course. In concluding, I recognize and applaud the resolute efforts made so far by my colleagues in making sure we succeed in all we set-out to do and in sticking together through tick and tin. Comrades, Enerst Nnoli, Valentine Iwuchukwu, Prince Ike Awgu, Johnbosco Nkem Okeke, Ekene Agejelu, Amaka Nwizu, Ifeanyi Obeche, Hilary Okoro, Obinna Okolo, Ekene Onubogu, Celestine Mouka, Goodluck Malunze, Menankiti Uzoamaka, Mortune Ikechukwu et el these were the servants that piloted the affairs of the council at the state level, of course I cannot forget our vibrant LGA coordinators, Comrades, Ifeanyichukwu Nwosu, Ejekam Chimezie, Chijioke Okanu, Moses Akam, Celestine Uzodike, Daniel Ifeanachor, Obinna Orakwe, Chimezie Onyia, Achike Areh, Emma Onuorah, Perry Ubatuegwu, Celestine Odimegwu, Hilary Ikeanyi, Chike Obi, Emmanuel Obieze, Ogochukwu and so many of our ward coordinators and special assistants/advisers- Chidinma Okonkwo, Iwuobi, Uche and co.
