OUR THIRD AND LAST STOP IN ICELAND: THE CITY OF AKUREYRI, the countrys second largest urban area after Reykjavík thus nicknamed the Capital of North Iceland. An important port and fishing centre with a population of 17,754. It was settled in the 9th century and was the hideaway site of Allied units during World War II.
