OUR VETERANS When I was growing up this holiday was called - TopicsExpress

OUR VETERANS When I was growing up this holiday was called Decoration Day and was always on the 30th. Today it is broadened to Memorial Day and is on the last Monday of May. It is a day we especially honor our veterans who have fought for our freedoms. I have/had two older brothers, Jack and Jim, who fought in WWII. Jim has passed on but Jack, now 91, is still alive and beloved by many. I just sent him a greeting via video on this special day. Our veterans are facing more today than ever before; they not only fight for our freedom abroad but right now getting treated as forgotten by many of our Veteran Hospitals. I hope that gets remedied quickly now that the focus has been put on the issue. My heart bleeds for them. I also bled for the Vietnam Vets who were treated with disdain when they returned from an unpopular war. That attitude is a blight on our history. My hat is off to you guys who fought in that war, you are still a hero in my eyes. Today, we have become the worlds police and are spread thin. Our Vets are returning maimed by IEDs and enemy fire. They continue to suffer though they have done their duty voluntarily. I am proud of them. My mom was a prayer warrior for my two brothers, they returned safely and unharmed. Both were stationed in the South Pacific; one in Guam and one in Hawaii. They were 16-17 years older than I but I could grasp the situation through the seriousness of moms prayers and Walter Winchell ratcheting the news each evening at 6:00. I was just 5 years old. There was a small blue flag hanging in our front window signifying that two men from this household were in the service. Jack told God that if he got him home safely he would serve Him; God did and Jack did. Many of you remember him and may remember when Jack and Ruby sang in evangelistic work back in the 40s & early 50s. They were a great blessing in those days. Jack settled down in Middletown OH and became and integral part of his church (now Bible Methodist). Though now physically unable to attend, he continues to follow Jesus and his daughter, Linda, helps him sing and pray as they have church at home. Bless her! Say Thank You to a veteran today! Pray for those who are in harms way even as we speak. If you have a business, hire one when they get home.
