OUT AND ABOUT: Hanging out last night with Vertical Horizon featuring drummer Ron LaVella @ The Longmeadow Lake Music Festival in Winnetka, Illinois. Founded in the early 90s, the alternative rock group is still going strong! About Ron LaVella: Ron Lavella, originally from West Newton, a small town outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, began drumming at a very young age. At the age of 8, Ron started playing in a street corp drum line which introduced him to rudimental drumming. He quickly became passionate about music. In high school, Ron was a part of the marching band, concert band, and jazz ensemble. After graduation, he enrolled in the percussion department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. There he was a member of the marching band, percussion ensemble and concert band. After college, Ron moved to Pittsburgh where he became a very active drummer on the session scene. He also took full advantage of playing as many live gigs with a variety of artists as possible. After recording and touring with an assortment of bands in Pittsburgh, Ron decided to expand his opportunities and move to Nashville. Since moving to Nashville, he has extended his talent to studio recordings with diverse singers and songwriters there. In the fall of 2008, Ron became a touring member of Vertical Horizon. When he is not on the road with Vertical Horizon, Ron keeps a busy schedule in Nashville with recording sessions and live performances. Rons musical versatility truly compliments a variety of genres. Ron LaVella proudly endorses Sabian Cymbals and Innovative Percussion Drumsticks. Special thanks to the members of Vertical Horizon and their FOH Engineer/Technical Assistant Jay Phebus for their incredible backstage hospitality. Extra special thanks to Ron LaVella for sharing his impressive and blazing warmup routine on his RealFeel Practice Pad before the show!
