OUT WITH THE OLD- IN WITH THE NEW - PART 2 A quick look at AHAs AHAs, most commonly seen in the form of glycolic and lactic acid, can exfoliate skin cells by breaking down the substance in skin that holds skin cells together, thus encouraging cell turnover. In addition, they can help increase the moisture level in the skin, brighten & smooth the skins texture, and stimulate collagen, thus improving firmness of the skin. Last week we talked about two types of exfoliation techniques, mechanical and with the use of enzymes. Both are effective techniques, and are options for those not yet ready to experience the impact a chemical peel. I personally consider chemical exfoliation to be one of the most effective forms of exfoliation. Whether your skin care goals include general skin rejuvenation, monthly maintenance, or improving specific skin care conditions such as acne and sun damage, chemical exfoliation is an option to seriously consider. Many skin conditions, including acne and sun damage will take time. How much time depends on how your skin reacts to each peel. A commitment to any corrective skin care regimen is important. Equally important is a proper home care regimen. We are happy to discuss with you your options for effective exfoliation techniques at JPS Skin. jpsskin
