OVER 40 SEC. SCHOOLS TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS YEARS ABC BANK BARINGO MARATHON Via #AFN A total of 43 secondary schools have confirmed their participation in the 13th edition of the ABC Bank Baringo Half Marathon, in Kabarnet on November 1, 2014. The schools will compete in a 6km race as teams or individuals. In the schools category, the students participating will enter a team of 10 with six to score. The winning team will pocket Sh100,000; the first runners-up will get Sh50, 000 while the bronze winners will pocket Sh25,000. Individual runners participating in this category will be entitled to Sh25,000 for the winner, Sh22,500 for the first runners-up and Sh20,000 for the second runners-up. The organizers said the event is also open to individual student runners whose schools will not present teams. Schools that have confirmed participation include: Kituro High, Kapropita Girls, Kabarnet High, Riwo Mixed, Kapkawa Secondary, Sacho High, Tenges High, Tabagon Girls, Oinobmoin Boys, AIC Philemon Chelagat Girls, Ngetmoi Girls, Timboiywo Mixed, AIC Kapkelelwa, Kapsogo Mixed, Kabarnet Hurth Mixed, Seretunin Mixed, Pemwai Girls, Kapchomuso Mixed, AIC Ebeneza Secondary and Kabarbarma Mixed Secondary School. Other participating schools are: Kipsoit Mixed, St. Marys Salawa, Chesongo Mixed, Kaptorokwo Mixed, Kapkut Mixed, Kaptimbor Mixed, Kiboino Mixed, Ossen High, Moi High Kabartonjo, Aiyebo Boys, Kapchepkor Secondary, St. Peter Gilrs Kaptere, Kasisit Secondary, Tanyilel Girls, Talai Secondary, Tiriondonin Secondary, Bartolimo Boys, Kasok Girls, Kipsaraman Mixed, Kapkiamo Mixed, Tirimionin Mixed, Kapluk Secondary and Keturwo Secondary. While speaking during the launch of the marathon, race founder and former five time cross country champion Paul Tergat said it is only by including the schools in the event that will help nurture talent at the local level.Being a cross country season, we have officially introduced a 6km race for students as we seek to identify and nurture athletics talent at the lowest level, Tergat noted. This years event will also see an increase in the prize money where the winner in both the men and womens categories will each take home Sh300,000. The increase in the kitty was necessitated by the doubling of the sponsorship money by main sponsors, ABC Bank to Sh10m.
