OWNERSHIP OF NIGERIAS CRUDE OIL: Bugajes argument is flawed and illogical. By Articles 76 & 77 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, every coastal state, including Nigeria, automatically has jurisdiction over its Continental Shelf measuring 200 nautical miles into the sea from the baseline of the territorial waters . A coastal state can apply for extension of its Continental Shelf beyond 200 nautical mile up to 350 nautical miles, but upon submission of geodetic data to a Designate Commission of the UN, to showing that the land below the sea is a nautical prolongation of its own land.Nigeria did just that in 2009 but is yet to receive a recommendation. In any case, LAND MASS IS NOT A BASIS FOR GRANT OF THE 200 NAUTICAL MILES OR BEYOND. un.org/.../conventio.../texts/unclos/closindx.htm channelstv/.../senate-urges-fg-to-fund.../
