OY GUYS - LISTEN UP! Okay, now that I have your attention, I presume youre going to be voting tomorrow (if you are an American citizen of age and havent voted early). I also suspect that a bunch of you havent done much (or any) research into the candidates wholl be on your ballot. In the ongoing spirit of Ian pays attention to politics so you dont have to, if you would like my take on any congressional or gubernatorial candidates, shoot me a PM. Ill differentiate the facts and my opinion. For those of you in FL District 6, regardless of your party affiliation I STRONGLY recommend [opinion; caveat follows] that you vote AGAINST the incumbent, Ron DeSantis (R). The reason for this is [fact] he is one of the ten most Tea-Party-est members of the House. He voted against the Hurricane Sandy relief bill; the Violence Against Women (Reauthorization) Act; the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill (aka the THUD bill, this is the omnibus bill on infrastructure spending - repairing highways, etc.); and the Farm Bill; among others. He voted in favor of repealing the Affordable Care Act for each of the more than *four dozen* bills on the subject (none of which went anywhere in the Senate). He voted in favor of all the bills that tied government funding to the various demands the GOP issued last October (a type of political blackmail that is both unusual and generally unsuccessful), and against the clean government funding bill that finally reopened the federal government after several weeks of being closed. He voted against the debt ceiling increase, a bill that does not actually incur more national debt but actually allocates federal funds to manage the payment of existing debt (had the debt ceiling not been raised, it is no exaggeration to say the world economy would have tanked). Rep. DeSantis is a bomb-thrower, not a productive legislator. Opinion caveat from above: if you actually like how dysfunctional the GOP has made Congress in the past two years, then you would want to vote for DeSantis. NO MATTER WHO IS ON YOUR BALLOT AND NO MATTER WHO YOU CHOOSE TO VOTE FOR (or against), YOU SHOULD VOTE. If you dont, you have no standing to complain about how the next couple years go politically.
