Oakland Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack has been named ESPN’s “NFL Live” 2014 Defensive Rookie of the Year, the network announced Tuesday. Mack, who was also recognized as the “NFL Live” Midseason Defensive Rookie of the Year, adds this accolade to an already impressive list of honors he has received for his rookie campaign, including being named to the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie team and NFL’s Midseason All-Rookie team. In December, he was the only rookie named to USA Football’s All-Fundamentals team, an honor awarded to 26 NFL players who exhibit exemplary football techniques for young players to emulate. Mack, the Raiders’ first-round selection (fifth overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft, started all 16 games for the Silver and Black in 2014. He was a consistent force on defense, totaling 84 tackles (59 solo), four sacks, four passes defensed and one forced fumble. Before joining Oakland, the 6-foot-3, 252-pounder played collegiately at Buffalo, starting all 48 career games and totaling 327 tackles (186 solo), 28.5 sacks, an NCAA-record 16 forced fumbles, four interceptions and 21 passes defensed.
